Discovering New England Stone Walls
Presented by Kevin Gardner
Wednesday September 6th at 7:00pm
FREE tot he public, made possible by a grant from NH Humanities to Go
Why are we so fascinated with stone walls? Kevin Gardner, author of “The Granite Kiss,” explains how and why New England came to acquire its thousands of miles of stone walls. Learn about the ways in which the walls and other dry stone structures were built, how their styles emerged and changed over time, and their significance to the famous New England landscape.
During the presentation, Kevin occupies himself by building a miniature wall on a tabletop, using tiny stones from a five gallon bucket. Watch his techniques and then see if you can see similarities in the walls around your own home.
This program will take place in the Winnipesaukee Room of the Carriage House. Use Ossipee Park Road for entry, park in our main parking lot and then walk to The Carriage House.
Admission is free, and you do not need to register in advance for this event. For questions or details, please contact Stephanie at 603-476-5410.
