SUMMARY:Creative Writing Workshop: Letting Nature Prompt You
DESCRIPTION:Ever let nature soothe you\, inform\, prompt\, even consume you for a half hour or an hour? In this workshop\, you can do just that! We will use directed prompts\, journal writing and poetry to help us experience the natural world and its gifts. We will spend our time walking slowly\, sitting in stillness and stopping at special sights that call to you along the Brook Trail. This workshop involves moderate hiking. \nNo writing experience is necessary\, but a willingness to play and explore is. Please bring a small note pad and pencil or cell phone that records\, dress for the weather\, and wear appropriate footwear. You might consider bringing a hat\, bug repellent and a small cushion to sit on.

DESCRIPTION:A rich variety of cemeteries and gravestones can be found in town cemeteries all across our state and have the ability to reveal forgotten aspects of our history. They not only tell stories of such historical events as the Great Awakening\, the Throat Distemper epidemic\, the American Revolution\, and the battles of the Civil War\, but also reveal how aspects of society in the Granite State\, such as the status of women and people of color\, have changed over time. Join Glenn to find out more about these deeply personal works of art and learn how to read the stone “pages” that give insight into the vast genealogical book of New Hampshire through the ages.  \nThis presentation will take place in the Winnipesaukee Room on the second floor of the Carriage House. \nThis presentation is made possible by a grant from the New Hampshire Humanities: Humanities To Go program.
