SUMMARY:Votes for Women: A History of the Suffrage Movement
DESCRIPTION:The campaign for women’s right to vote was a long one\, from the 1848 Women’s Rights Convention in Seneca Falls\, New York to ratification of the 19th amendment in 1920. Who were the key players in New Hampshire and the nation? What issues and obstacles did they face? How did suffragists benefit from World War I in the final push for passage of the women’s suffrage amendment? Who was left out when women got the right to vote? Using historic photos and documents\, Liz Tentarelli will guide us on the journey. Liz is president of the League of Women Voters NH\, a non-partisan organization that is the direct descendant of the National American Woman Suffrage Association.  \nThis presentation will take place in the Winnipesaukee Room on the second floor of the Carriage House. Registration is encouraged but not required. Knowing how many people will be attending allows us to better prepare for the evening. \nThis presentation is made possible by a grant from the New Hampshire Humanities: Humanities To Go program.

DESCRIPTION:Disobey your mother and look at the sun…through a hydrogen-alpha telescope! Each Monday\, members of the NH Astronomical Society will set up their telescopes in the field by Shannon Pond. Feel free to drop by and speak with the astronomers\, learn about the sun\, and try out their telescopes anytime between 12:00 pm and 4:00 pm. \nSolar Gazing requires clear skies. In the event that weather conditions are not right\, there will be a drop-by astronomy presentation in the Winnipesaukee Room on the second floor of the Carriage House instead. \nThis is a free program and registration is encouraged but not required.

DESCRIPTION:Come make a wearable work of art in the Arts and Crafts style!  \nLucknow Mansion at Castle in the Clouds is a striking example of Arts and Crafts style architecture\, but the Arts and Crafts Movement touched many art forms\, including jewelry-making. In this workshop\, you will first learn about Arts and Crafts jewelry\, what was happening in the world to inspire it\, and how to identify it. Then you will create a period piece to take home with you! Everyone will be given a sterling silver moonstone base to start with. Then\, students will work with pliers and hammers to shape wire into an organic shape\, and add gemstones to reflect the suffragette colors of the day. Finally\, add a chain and a clasp to finish your piece into a wearable work of art. \nThis class is intended for adults and requires no prior experience. Space is limited\, so be sure to register in advance! \n

SUMMARY:Brook Walk Hike & Sketch
DESCRIPTION:Join us on a guided hike and see what artistic inspiration you can find along the way! The Brook Walk follows Shannon Brook as it rambles through the woods and leads to viewpoints of seven spectacular waterfalls\, with much of the trail following the route that led Ossipee Mountain Park visitors to these points more than a century ago. Along the hike\, you will learn about some of the history of the property and sketch the sights that call out to you\, led by a CPS volunteer. All necessary supplies will be provided. \nThis is a moderate hike of about 1 mile long and has an elevation climb of approximately 200’. It also includes several sections of rock stairs.  \nThis program is intended for adults and children ages 8 and up. We recommend that children under the age of 16 are accompanied by an adult. Please wear appropriate footwear\, dress for the weather\, and bring sunscreen and bug spray as desired.
