Performed by MaConnia Chesser. \nAn Iliad is a modern-day retelling of Homer’s classic. Poetry and humor\, the ancient tale of the Trojan War and the modern world collide in this captivating theatrical experience. The setting is simple: the empty theater. The time is now: the present moment. The lone figure onstage is a storyteller—possibly Homer\, possibly one of the many bards who followed in his footsteps. During this intimate\, one-hour guided tour\, we will examine the servant experience at Lucknow Mansion and seek to better understand their stories. \nThis special tour kicks off Labor Day Weekend at Lucknow\, during which we will highlight the many ways that labor was involved in the building and operation of Lucknow. \nPlease note that this tour requires the navigation of two flights of stairs and is not accessible.

DESCRIPTION:Daily life for the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company’s textile worker was not easy. Robert Perreault sheds light on how people from a variety of European countries as well as from French Canada made the transition from an agrarian to an industrial society and how that change affected families\, cultures\, the nature of work\, and relationships among workers themselves. \nThis presentation will take place in the Winnipesaukee Room on the second floor of the Carriage House. \nThis presentation is made possible by a grant from the New Hampshire Humanities: Humanities To Go program.

DESCRIPTION:Led by an experienced volunteer hiker\, this week’s hike is up Shannon Pond Road to Bald Knob Cutoff. This is a moderate to difficult level hike that is about 4 miles and has an elevation climb of approximately 1\,150′.
