SUMMARY:Science of Writing PD 2 Day Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a professional development 2-Day Workshop for teachers! \nThis two-day learning experience equips educators with an understanding of the theoretical models underpinning the latest research in writing instruction. Grounded in the gradual release model and intentional scaffolding\, the experience examines writing from its foundational building blocks. This workshop will help teachers design explicit\, systematic instruction that supports all learners. Participants will engage in a structured writing simulation to experience the cognitive demand and vulnerability that students encounter. Educators will develop practical tools\, including sentence-level scaffolds grounded in oral language\, self-regulation strategies\, goal-setting practices\, and the use of exemplars and modeling to drive student achievement. Whether implementing a core program or building systems where none exist\, participants will leave with actionable strategies to create rigorous\, supportive\, and effective writing instruction. \nLunch will be provided during both days of this program. A guided hike (weather permitting) and entrance to the Castle is also included in the cost. \nPre-registration is required. All ticket sales are final; no refunds\, transfers to other days\, or exchanges.

DESCRIPTION:Join the New Hampshire Astronomical Society for an exciting stargazing experience at Castle in the Clouds! Bring your family and friends for an hour-long presentation about the wonders of the night sky during a talk in the Winnipesaukee Room on the second floor of the Carriage House while the last light fades from the sky. Then\, make your way to the field by Shannon Pond to get a chance to use a telescope to view constellations\, planets\, and more! This event is perfect for children and adults alike! \nThis family-friendly event is free and open to the public. Donations during the event contribute to the Castle Preservation Society’s and New Hampshire Astronomical Society’s ability to continue offering wonderful events like this. \nRegistration is encouraged but not required. Knowing how many people will be attending allows us to better prepare for the evening.
