A Letter from the Director

Dear Friends,

Erin Schaick is a young woman born and raised in Wisconsin who came to New Hampshire in 2012, fell in love with the state, and decided to stay. When her parents visited her in September, she brought them to Castle in the Clouds. “It’s one of my favorite places to take visiting friends, and if I’m being honest, it’s one of the easiest ways to visually explain to my parents why I love New Hampshire!”

The Castle, owned and operated by the Castle Preservation Society, is, in many ways, the epitome of New Hampshire. Thousands of visitors like Erin are inspired and awe-struck by the views over Lake Winnipesaukee, the elegantly designed and furnished stone buildings, the natural beauty of the fields, woods, pond and waterfalls—all preserved in non-profit ownership. In fact, new research suggests that feeling awe, being in the presence of something larger than ourselves, holds the power to improve our happiness, change negative thinking, and strengthen our connections to others.

A gift to the Castle’s year-end appeal will help ensure that this property will always be here for you, your family, and future generations to come. Our goal is to raise $75,000 by December 31. These funds will to go directly toward preserving and maintaining the historic buildings and enhancing the visitor experience at this extraordinary place.

Giving now is one of the most powerful things you can do to help us achieve our vision of becoming the region’s premier cultural and historic resource and welcoming visitors from around the world to a fully-restored Castle. With guidance from our new three-year Strategic Plan, we are ready to meet the challenges of the future—and to inspire people like Erin, and like you, for years to come.

Thank you!
